This is not in lieu of regular actors training, this is a complement to it. This process helps you expand the range of your emotional experience and how you express it.
One aspect of this process is becoming even more aware of bodily sensations than you already are. Why is this useful? When you act, your inner life is communicated to the public through physical manifestations such as tone of voice, facial expressions, body language. As you get more familiar with the body sense that corresponds to emotional experience, you increase your ability to master the nuances of emotional expression from inside out.
Another aspect is the “felt sense”. What is that? Think about the kind of moment when something is on the tip of your tongue -- you just can't find the words for it. There is a tremendous richness in exploring this murky territory. This is a state of the mind where things are not governed by logic - - yet things unfold in an organic way that feels truly authentic.
